Welcome

Welcome to the Qikiqtani Region of Nunavut — the eastern side of the territory, and home to 16,000+ Inuit. Our goal at Nunavut Nukkiksautiit Corporation is to support all 13 communities transition away from diesel dependence, toward renewable energy, in a way that makes life better for Inuit.

How do we work? Co-Development

NNC is not your typical business. We are a 100% Inuit-owned subsidiary with ownership and governance connections all the way to the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement. Our north star is economic, social, and environmental benefits for Inuit.

We don’t develop projects for Inuit. We develop projects with Inuit. Our board of directors is 100% Inuit, and we follow a development model that centres Inuit voices in decision-making every step of the way. Co-development means the company and the community work side-by-side to design and deliver on projects chosen by the community.

Our Values

When the Government of Nunavut was formed, Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated wanted to know which Inuit Societal Values (ISVs) should guide the work of this new government. There are many to choose from. Inuit culture, ways of knowing and being, and communication are strongly connected to values. They spoke with elders from across Nunavut, and identified eight ISVs to frame the way that the government should represent Inuit.

In thinking about how NNC should work, we wanted to reflect those same values. There have been many visual expressions of these values in the past. We wanted to reinterpret them in the context of renewable energy development.
